BMBF project moreBNE: Open Educational Resources for sustainability education
So that teachers do not always have to reinvent the wheel when preparing lessons, they can draw on existing materials, such as open educational resources. The moreBNE research project promotes the exchange and competent use of freely available teaching materials in the field of education for sustainable development.
The moreBNE project focuses on establishing an Open Educational Resources OER Community of Practice (OER-CoP) in the field of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) at schools. To this end, the project addresses the development and expansion of competences that are necessary for the emancipated use, selection, production and distribution of Open Educational Resources (OER). To maintain this OER-CoP, collaborative infrastructure and work structures are introduced and consolidated in parallel. The moreBNE project thus addresses the tentative handling of OER in the teaching profession at the same time as the socially highly relevant topic of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD). It aims to develop and expand the competences required for the promising use of OER and also includes the establishment of collaborative working structures to strengthen an existing community of practice (CoP).
The structuring goals are:
- the strengthening and transfer of the existing regional network ‘BNE macht Schule’ into an OER-related CoP
- the removal of obstacles with the simultaneous development of competences on OER and ESD
- the expansion and networking of OER stakeholders and
- the provision of OER on defined ESD topics
To this end, an ‘OER hub’ is to be created in the existing Didactic Innovation Labs (DiLab) at the Centre for Teacher Education and Subject Didactics at the University of Passau, which will serve as a place of identification for the CoP and be established as a hub for innovative event formats. Here, various stakeholders, including those from civil society and business, will work together with teachers and university representatives on OER-based teaching modules (UBS), accompanied by project staff. These are curriculum-orientated didactic compilations of OER that are geared towards teaching practice. They are to be trialled and researched as a means of breaking down barriers and uncertainties among teachers with regard to the use of OER. In addition, the project will test further formats for teaching OER skills in schools and expand the CoP. The project results and resulting products will be available to the public via established OER communities and platforms.
The project team consists of Alexander Fenzl (OER specialist ), Johannes Jachmann (Media Technology specialist ) and Petra Mayrhofer (ESD specialist ). The project is supervised by Prof. Dr. Andreas Eberth, Dr. Hannes Birnkammerer, Dr. Sabrina Kufner and Dr. Christian Müller.
