Announcement of
for a doctoral thesis on the topic ‘Professionalisation of teacher education – an international comparison of career choice motives and attitudes towards the teaching profession’
Background:
In the face of a worldwide shortage of teachers, empirical research attaches great importance to the career choice motivation of student teachers. The shortage of teachers is currently a worldwide phenomenon that affects neither Germany nor only Western countries.
The Chair of Education with a research focus on diversity research and educational spaces in middle childhood has been running the international research project ‘InVerS’ for several years. The overarching goal of the cross-national and cross-professional project is a longitudinal survey of the study and career choice motives of teacher training students, as well as their attitudes and perceptions regarding the teaching profession.
The project uses method triangulation and takes into account possible culturally different sociographic factors. In addition to career motivation, other factors are also coming into focus, in particular lateral entry and changes or dropouts from degree programmes, as well as the diversification and internationalisation of teacher education.
