Janusz Korczak, a Polish-Jewish paediatrician, orphanage director, author and pedagogue, is considered a pioneer of children's rights. His work is anything but a coherent body of theory – and yet it continues to provide a wide range of impulses for pedagogical practice and research. Nevertheless, the visionary potential of his work and the contribution of his colleagues are increasingly being forgotten. For over a year and with the support of relevant experts, students and teachers from the Universities of Passau and Warsaw have been studying the life and work of Korzcak. The recently published anthology ties in with this exciting process and offers an interdisciplinary examination of the question of the applicability of Korzcak's ideas to 21st-century societies.
