Digital and AI Literacy in Teacher Education: Innovative Approaches to Teaching, Learning and Digital Literacy
The digital transformation is not only shaping the education sector, but is also confronting higher education institutions with the task of equipping lecturers with digital and AI-supported skills. The project Digital Literacy and AI Literacy in Teacher Education was developed to create innovative, research-based approaches that support prospective teachers in combining theory and practice. These approaches also offer potential for adaptation in university teaching to promote the integration of digital and AI-based methods there as well.
The presentation will focus on the four modules of the project, which offer practical solutions:
Module 1 – Constructive Alignment:
Teaching, learning and testing from a single source: This module aims to make learning outcomes transparent and combine innovative teaching and learning activities with appropriate examination formats. The focus is on competence-, action- and result-oriented didactics with digital media.
Module 2 – Learning Culture(s) of Digitality:
This module emphasises the potential of digital technologies and in particular
AI applications for new forms of teaching and learning. It shows how artificial intelligence can be used to promote personalised learning processes, provide automated feedback and efficiently analyse individual learning progress. Teachers learn how to integrate AI tools in a didactically meaningful way while critically reflecting on ethical aspects and the limitations of AI in education.
Module 3 – Transformations of digital learning culture(s):
Without subject-specific knowledge, digital skills have no value. This module promotes the integration of digital media into teaching so that digital skills are sustainably anchored in a subject-specific context.
Module 4 – Future Skills & Learning Spaces:
The digital transformation is changing subject matter and teaching methods. This module teaches future skills and didactic approaches to meet tomorrow's requirements and create innovative learning spaces.
The lecture provides insights into the development and implementation of the modules and their anchoring in all phases of teacher education. In addition, results and findings on the interlinking of theory and practice, which were achieved through close cooperation with seminar leaders and universities, are presented.
The lecture will take place on Tuesday, 21 January 2025, at 4:15 p.m. in room SR007 (ISA)!
We look forward to seeing you
