Doctoral study
The aim of the doctorate is to prove that the candidate is capable of independent academic achievement. Doctorates are exclusively awarded by universities.
Faculty of Social and Educational Sciences staff will be happy to advise you if you are interested in a doctorate at our faculty or are already enrolled as a doctoral candidate.
Your application
When applying, please give us sufficient time to process your application. The admissions procedure involves requesting information from the German Central Advisory Office on Foreign Education Systems. This step may take anywhere from some weeks, and we would therefore ask you to plan accordingly.
Service centres and further information
Important service centres and information from the University of Passau
We recommend that you read the highly relevant information from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) first, as it may answer many of your questions about the application and admissions procedure.
The Graduate Centre
The Graduate Centre provides comprehensive information on organisational and interdisciplinary topics concerning doctoral and postdoctoral research and study. In co-operation with the Centre for Information Technology and Media Services (ZIM), the Graduate Centre manages the assignment of accounts for the university computer network to doctoral researchers who are not associated with the university (external doctoral researchers), so that they can use the University's IT services.
