Notes on Term Papers and Final Theses
Master and Bachelor Theses - Allocation of Topics
Supervision of Bachelor and Master theses is only provided if the students have completed the corresponding sociology modules in their course of study.
The proposed topics of the examination papers must result from the range of topics of the courses attended.
Topics not covered by courses of the Chair of Sociology cannot be accepted.
Information on the Cover Sheet
- Topic
- Details of the seminar: Name of the PS/HS, name of the lecturer, WS/SS (for term papers)
- Information on the author: name, matriculation number, course of study, number of semesters (possibly cultural area)
- exact name (and number) of the module to which the grade is to be assigned (for term papers)
- Address, telephone number, e-mail address
- Date of submission
- Vorlage: Deckblatt für Hausarbeiten
- Vorlage: Eigenständigkeitserklärung
- Vorlage: Leitfaden zum Erstellen einer Haus- bzw. Bachelorarbeit
For Formatting
- 1 cover sheet
- 2nd page (not numbered): Table of contents with page references
- Page submissions in the header or footer are mandatory (starting with "1")
- Line spacing 1.5 lines
- font size 12
- Leave page margins as preformatted
- Font: a normal width proportional font like Times New Roman or Cambria
- Bibliography (possibly list of illustrations)
- Last page: Written declaration of the "assurance of scientific honesty" with signature
Criteria for Grading
- Topic: independent (!) formulation of the question
- Argumentation: Stringency, coherence, correctness
- Personal contribution: i.e. not only the reproduction of the course contents, but also the application of the theory(s) beyond that
- Shape: Formatting, correct citation and bibliographical references
- Language: Correctness with regard to orthography and grammar
