Analysis of post-colonial transformation processes in Southeast Asia focuses on five thematic areas, in both teaching and research:

• Conflict, catastrophe and state formation
• Urban development
• Development policy and process
• Culture, religion and gender
• Environment and trans-boundary linkages 

A notable feature of Southeast Asian studies at the University of Passau is our extensive language program. We regularly offer courses from beginner to advanced level, taught by native speakers, in Southeast Asian languages such as Indonesian, Thai, Vietnamese and Chinese.
