Partner institutions
The Department of Southeast Asian Studies has partnership agreements with following institutions in Southeast Asia. Further information is available from the International Office.
ASEA-UNINET (ASEAN-European Academic University Network) enables academic and cultural exchanges between European and Southeast Asian Universities. The network was formed in 1994 by universities from Austria, Vietnam, Indonesia and Thailand and has grown continuously since then. On the European side, universities in Austria and neighbouring continue to predominate. The University of Passau affiliated to the network in 2010 and is the only member university in Germany. The principle activities of ASEA-UNINET include the joint research projects, especially on topics related to sustainable development, and enabling and supporting academic exchanges at different levels.
Thailand
Location: Bangkok, Thailand
University of Passau Students may take courses at the Faculty of Liberal Arts taken free of charge. Courses in the BA Program ‘International Studies (ASEAN-China)’ are particularly recommended.
Students may also take fee-based courses within the MA Program ‘ASEAN studies’ at Thammasat University’s Banomyong International College.

All bachelor level courses at the University are free for students from the University of Passau. The university also offers fee-based language courses, tailored to students’ needs.

University of Passau Students can take bachelor level courses at all faculties free of charge, with the prior agreement of the faculty concerned. Courses at the School of Tourism Development are particularly recommended.

Vietnam

University of Passau Students may take Bachelor and master’s level courses at the USSH. We recommend courses at the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies and Vietnamese Language courses at the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies and Vietnamese Language. These include:

• Cultural Studies
• Art and Literature
• Comparative /Contrastive Linguistics
Fee-based language courses are also offered, tailored to students’ needs.

University of Passau Students can take bachelor and master’s level courses at the University of Yangon free of charge. We recommend courses offered in the fields History of Southeast Asia and Political Science.
Indonesia

In cooperation between UP and the Faculty of Human Ecology of IPB University, students from both undergraduate and graduate programs at UP have the chance to study for a semester at IPB. Students must demonstrate interest in the Indonesian society and culture, and in developing understanding of the relationship between Germany and Indonesia. Furthermore, students must have demonstrated adequate English proficiency by the time of departure. Students will be offered courses at IPB in relation to the Indonesian language and culture. Programs taken by students from UP can be with credit or non-credit programs, depending on the agreement before the activity is carried out. Furthermore, a summer course will be conducted by the Directorate of International Program IPB University. Due to COVID-19 Pandemic, the summer course is deferred to November 2020 (online). Students from UP are warmly encouraged to participate. More information can be found here.

In cooperation between UP and the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences of UAJY, students from the undergraduate programs at UP have the chance to study for a semester (or a year) at UAJY. Students must demonstrate interest in the Indonesian society and culture, and in developing understanding of the relationship between Germany and Indonesia. Furthermore, students must have demonstrated adequate English proficiency by the time of departure. Students will be offered courses at UAJY in relation to the Indonesian language and culture. Programs taken by students from UP can be with credit or non-credit programs, depending on the agreement before the activity is carried out.
