The project at a glance
Problem description:
Since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic in 2020, digital services have become indispensable (Kuhn, 2021): Teachers are increasingly conceptualising and designing digital services and integrating them into their teaching. But which criteria for the quality of digital services are important in primary school? From research, we know that cognitive activation, constructive support and adaptivity are important quality features of analogue teaching (e.g. Decristan et al., 2020, Dumont, 2019). We currently know little about the quality of digital offers. However, it is known that professional skills are particularly important for the use of digital offers (Jentsch et al., 2021).
What do we want to know?
We want to use an online survey to find out how primary school teachers design cognitively activating, constructively supportive, and adaptivedigital offers for German lessons in primary school for all children and which professional competences can help teachers in this process.
What will come out of the project?
Based on the results of our teacher survey, we will develop training, continuing education and professional development measures throughout Bavaria, as well as practical guides (with best practice examples) for all three phases of teacher training on the topic of ‘How do I professionally design cognitively activating, constructively supporting and adaptive digital offers for all children?’. In doing so, special attention is to be paid to dealing sensitively with children with language difficulties in (digital) German lessons, and to promoting teachers' media-related beliefs and self-efficacy expectations.
