InVerS Project details
International Comparative Study on Career Choice Motives and Attitudes towards the Teaching Profession among Student Teachers.
The study employs method triangulation, which involves using multiple methods, including both quantitative and qualitative evaluation methods in different sub-projects. At the start and end of the study, a standardised questionnaire is used to survey career choice motives. The questionnaire used is the FIT Choice Questionnaire, which is an internationally validated survey instrument (Watt and Richardson, 2007; German version: König, Rothland, Darge, Lünnemann and Tachtsoglou, 2013). The methodological setting is expanded in the mixed methods framework through qualitative interviews with the Passau sample starting from the 5th semester, which is approximately in the middle of the degree programme. The interview design is based on the findings of the quantitative surveys. It combines quantitative results from a questionnaire survey with qualitative data from in-depth interviews to provide causal explanations for changes in motivations and attitudes. The study involves universities from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, South Africa, and Israel. Additionally, a sub-project examines the career choice motivation of nursing education students in Austria.
