Professor Christina Hansen studied educational science and psychology at the University of Vienna, where she also completed a doctorate in the subject. From 2003 to 2007, she was a graduate teaching and research assistant at the Institute of Education at the University of Vienna. In 2007, she completed a teacher training course and gained a diploma in special education. From 2007 to 2010, she held a professorship in gifted education at the University of Karlsruhe.

Since November 2010, she has held the Chair of Education with a focus on diversity research and educational spaces in middle childhood (formerly the Chair of Primary School Pedagogy and Didactics).

Since September 2020, she has held the office of Vice President for International Affairs, Europe and Diversity at the University of Passau (previously Vice President for Studies and Teaching until August 2020).

She is also a member of the Austrian Federal Government's Quality Assurance Council for Teacher Education (‘Weisenrat’).
